Wow...been a long time but I am excited to post about...well you guessed it, Far Trek. Far Trek is a very rules lite RPG about, you guessed it Star Trek!
Now I know that Modiphius has put out their Star Trek game and it is REALLY good but it is not rules lite....
We are centering the story around the U.S.S. Yorktown and her crew...in this, my universe, it is 2269 and the Yorktown has a new captain a female captain, Bonnie McCallister. Now this is an NPC and her X.O. is one of my sons, he is playing Commander Noah Lattrell who is coming with his own baggage, a daughter he is raising by himself, not on ship but with the help of his brother and his wife. We also have Lieutenant Aiden Rush, Chief Helmsman and top notch pilot. Aiden and Commander Lattrell have served together before and have the beginnings of a friendship. Aiden is also one of the few "Earthers" that a Klingon House respects and that has something to do with a medal that he wears and a Klingon Sash that comes out for dress occasions. Last we have Lieutenant Junior Grade T'Prall...a Vulcan physician assigned to the Yorktown. T'Prall is a graduate of the Vulcan Science Academy and Starfleet...she is dedicated to her Vulcan teachings BUT she also wants to have the experiences that another of her family had almost 100 years ago while she served on the NX-Enterprise, T'Pol.
Well that is our beginning, we have one mission in and I will write about that here soon, promise.
I am finally starting to feel really excited about something to do with gaming...and it strikes me just as Halloween is over.
A game that mashes up the cartoons Josie and the Pussycats with Scooby-Doo!! That's right a band that moves from place to place investigating the supernatural. So maybe this should be compared to Josie meets Supernatural...but I think we all get the idea!
I had an opportunity to run some AD+D 2e for four of the kids and a buddy of mine and we had a blast. My buddy is very familiar with this set of rules and I have to say it is probably the set of rules I ran the most or at least it's in the team picture.
At the end of the night the resulting after thoughts were...hey this was fun! Well that is what gaming is supposed to be about and with a few house rules here and there we had no problems. Hopefully we can get back to this soon, if anyone has questions, please let me know!
After some prep time we started our Decipher Star Trek game last night...it was great! I had six players at the table and while it will take some time to have the players get into character they had a great start. We have five humans and one Vulcan, the ship they are using is an Archer Class Scout that was seen in the Star Trek Vanguard Novels, it is a nice small ship and works great for a gaming group.
The year is 2266 and I am using TOS episodes as a marker or guideline to help the players know what is going on around them...this is right after Where No Man Has Gone Before...
We have two yellow shirts, two red shirts (one communications) and two blue (one medical one science). I am very excited and look forward to this continuing!
So I really wanted to be excited about this...and I find that I was a little disappointed. Most of what I thought was important I already have from Wiggy and the Daring Tales of the Space Lanes. There seems to be A LOT of typos and errata due out for this so I am going to wait and hope Pinnacle updates their PDF's to represent those changes.
